Pediatric (Maternal Child Health)
Pediatric nurses care and treat patients under the age of 18, including infants and children. A nurse in pediatrics must enjoy working with children and have good communication skills. Educational requirements for nurses include the completion of a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in nursing, or graduation from a nursing school. To become an RN, graduates must pass the national nursing examination. RNs gain most of the experience necessary to be a successful pediatric nurse by receiving on the job training in a clinic or hospital specializing in pediatrics patients.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that job opportunities for pediatric nurses is excellent, and will continue to be in the next decade. The starting salary for pediatric nurses begins at around $45,000, but with a few years of experience a pediatric nurse can earn over $50,000.
