Job Summary:


The Pediatric Cardiothoracic Nurse Practitioner will deliver comprehensive healthcare under the clinical supervision of the Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland/San Francisco and under the administrative supervision of the Director of Pediatric Critical Care at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco. The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with a dynamic interdisciplinary team of providers to care for patients in the Pediatric Cardiac Transitional Care Unit and in all inpatient areas that care for pediatric cardiothoracic surgery patients. Care is also provided in the outpatient clinic, via telehealth, and potentially in the operating room (depending on departmental need, experience, and interest). In the clinic and inpatient areas, the Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessment, evaluation, planning, teaching, and case management of preoperative and postoperative cardiothoracic surgery patients. The Nurse Practitioner will primarily work at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco campus and may cross train to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland campus or other facilities where our Pediatric Cardiothoracic surgeons operate Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery


 


Required Qualifications


Active CA NP license


Active AHA CPR certification


Active PALS certification


Active CPNP-AC Certification


3-years of clinical experience (as an RN or NP) working with pediatric cardiac patients in an inpatient or surgical setting


1-year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in a related clinical area


Demonstrated competence in communication, collaboration, clinical case management, leadership, problem identification and resolution, teaching and research


 


Preferred Qualifications


Previous OR experience Certification as an RNFA


 


License/Certification


California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.


Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.


Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.


Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.


Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).


Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day.  CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.


Must hold current AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS as minimum requirement


State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice


 


UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
