As a Preventive Medicine Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of Army Soldiers, retirees, and their families. You will have the opportunity to lead efforts in improving public health at both the individual and population levels by preventing or mitigating health threats through assessment, mitigation, and communication of risks. You will also have the chance to establish and direct physical medicine and rehabilitation programs, and train and mentor other medical personnel in your area of expertise.
Your responsibilities will include directing Force Health Protection efforts and overseeing the execution of core public health functions, including assessment, policy development, and assurance. This role will require collaboration with other public health professionals such as public health nurses, environmental scientists, entomologists, occupational medicine officers, and industrial hygienists to coordinate comprehensive health responses.
As a Reserve Officer, you will have the flexibility to serve your country during periods of need, while continuing to support your community. You will also receive ongoing training and education opportunities to advance both as a military officer and healthcare professional.

Eligibility Requirements
To join the Army Reserve as a Preventive Medicine Officer, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy. Foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates.
- Licensure: Must have a current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
- Board Certification: Must be eligible for board certification in preventive medicine.
- Graduate Medical Education: Must have completed at least one year of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship.
- Specialized Training: Must have completed a recognized training program in preventive medicine.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship is required for Active Duty; permanent U.S. residency is required for the Army Reserve.
