Also referred to as an ear, nose and throat doctor, or ENT, an otolaryngologist is a physician that specializes in the treatment of conditions related to an individual’s, nose, ear and throat. All individuals that would like to practice otolaryngology must complete an undergraduate education before attending medical school. After a physician gradates from medical school, he or she must complete a five-year residency program with an emphasis in otolaryngology. Then, a fellowship in a particular area of otolaryngology may be pursued. ENTs can work in a variety of places including a hospital or private practice. Therefore, the salary for an otolaryngologist varies depending on their place of employment and specialty. However, an otolaryngologist can expect to earn between $190,000 and $375,000 per year.
