Orthopedics Sports Medicine Physician Jobs
Orthopedic
An orthopedic doctor or surgeon treats patients with conditions related to the body’s musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic physicians complete an undergraduate degree before attending medical school. Medical school takes four years to complete and then a prospective orthopedic doctor undergoes residency training in orthopedics for five years. Those interested in pursuing a career in orthopedic surgery should be aware that the selection for applicants in a residency program is highly competitive. After the completion of all educational and training requirements, one receives certification by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Orthopedic surgeons work long hours, sometimes as many as 55 per week. However, the average orthopedic physician earns over $350,000 per year. Orthopedic physicians are in high demand and job prospects will continue to be better than most especially because of the limited number of physicians with a specialty in this area.
