A care management nurse primarily works in a hospital coordinating the long-term care for a patient including surgery, treatment and rehabilitation. Nurses working as case managers must have strong leadership skills and be familiar with all aspects of the patient’s care. After completing the educational requirement necessary to become a registered nurse, case management nurse candidates will gain clinical and management experience before becoming a care manager. Nurses may choose to specialize in one area of care including oncology or pediatrics. A care management nurse will earn between $57,000 and $75,000 per year depending on their experience and the geographical location of the position.
