Description:

Sterling Medical is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide Occupational Health services to the employees and trainees supporting the State Department training mission at Blackstone, VA, and to support the Bureau of Medical Service's Mission to promote and safeguard the health and well-being of America's diplomatic community.


Qualifications :



  1. Virginia State Nurse Practitioner License

  2. Current BLS

  3. 2 Years of Primary Care experience required

  4. 1 Year of Occupational experience preferred


Responsibilities Include:



  • Accurately diagnose and competently treat and manage predominantly musculoskeletal work injuries

  • Assist in treating and making appropriate referrals for acute care needs of the Department of State workforce for acute care illnesses

  • Interpret screening audiograms

  • Perform other basic medical surveillance examinations and fitness for duty examinations

  • Triage emergency (including non-occupational) medical situations

  • No clinic duties required

  • Provide occupational surveillance services including yearly audiogram screens, blood level lab testing, and lead exposure physical exams

  • Occupational surveillance services as indicated above, will be made in accordance with the Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and State Department published requirements

  • Occupational surveillance services will be provided for approximately 30 employees who are deemed at risk for lead and/or excessive sound exposure

  • Provide administration for periodic vaccinations supplied by the Department of State

  • Carry out evaluation and management of urgent and emergent patients

  • Make appropriate referral and handoffs of emergent conditions to appropriate healthcare resources including emergency rooms where appropriate

  • Liaison with other clinic staff and FASTC administrative officials to ensure effective lines of communication

  • Develop and maintain familiarity with appropriate Worker's Compensation processes and examinations and apply those processes in the workplace

  • Ensure best practices in line with clinical guidelines, clinical protocols, and standard operating procedures are followed

  • Provide input and consultation regarding the development of new or enhanced clinical protocols

  • Provide liaison with external agencies where required to promote chain of care continuity and professional referral and patient handover when appropriate

  • Provide any necessary additional duties for the primary care of the Department of State employees

  • Ensure that all medical records are properly kept and maintained


Hours of Performance: 8 hours shifts between the clinic hours of 6am-6pm; night, weekend & holiday hours are not required
