JOB SUMMARY

 

 Plans and coordinates patient nutrition care including counseling patients and/or caregivers on diet and nutrition; participates in specialty clinics or programs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. Assesses and monitors patients in specialty area of practice. Plans and coordinates age appropriate care including general nutrition (visits, monitoring, medical records, and office records), food/drug interaction, and recommendations for referrals to other disciplines.

 

2. Provides aggressive nutrition intervention appropriate for age and/or developmental stage and provides follow-up for continuity of care with ongoing evaluations and documentation including assessments, reassessments, and recommendations including NPO.

 

3. In collaboration with the care team is responsible for interpreting lab values, weight changes, gastrointestinal issues related to enteral nutrition and identifying acid/base disorders.

 

 4. Counsels and instructs patients and/or care givers providing written instruction materials. Evaluates and documents patient and/or caregiver understanding of diet based on behavioral objectives.

 

5. Develops and revises education materials and teaching outlines including individual and group handouts, ensuring materials are understandable and accurate.

 

6. Promotes nutrition and the Food Services Department through public relations and marketing.

 

7. Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.

 

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

9. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.

 

10. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

 

EDUCATION Required: BS degree in Nutrition or relevant field of study with dietetic internship. Preferred: Masters Degree in Nutrition related field.

 

CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION, LICENSE (*indicates primary source verification requirement) Required:  One of the following specialty certifications:  Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP)  Board Certified specialist in Renal Nutrition (SCR)  Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)  Board Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition (CSG)  Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (SCO)  Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)  Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) Current Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Association Commission on Dietetic Registration. Current Nutritionist license; or ability to obtain within 3-months of hire
