Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director-Medical Technology Strategy, Planning and Support
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic planning of medical technology needs for the NYU Langone Health System. Directs and manages the process of medical equipment planning and procurement for all capital construction projects from project conception through planning, design, construction, operational occupancy and project closeout. Develops, plans and coordinates the Medical Equipment Life Cycle Management Program. Responsible for the data integrity of the Medical Equipment Asset Management System.


Job Responsibilities:



  • Provides leadership and professional development of the Medical Equipment Planning and Capital Planning Groups consisting of internal medical technology planning staff and external medical equipment planning consultants, logistics coordinators, project managers, analysts and others, as required.

  • Oversees the management of comprehensive services for planning, specification, tracking, shipping, warehousing, installation, inspection and servicing of medical, non-medical, and other equipment and support systems necessary to meet requirements of multiple healthcare facility projects

  • Works with Health System departments to identify medical equipment needs.

  • Evaluates, recommends, and coordinates the approvals for the acquisition of medical equipment alternatives in order to improve current operations and satisfy future requirements.

  • Serves as the key medical equipment subject matter expert for NYU Langone Health.

  • Possesses an in-depth knowledge of medical equipment life cycle costs to strategically generate medical equipment replacement plans and assists in forecasting medical equipment related fiscal budgets.

  • Serves as a key member of Health System Capital Committee.

  • Assists in the review, prioritization and approval to acquire medical equipment based on physical and service attributes.

  • Responsible for developing capital equipment strategic initiatives including standardization, utilization, aggregation and the like.

  • Supports and participates in cost reduction initiatives, productivity and quality improvement efforts.

  • Oversee the operations and maintenance of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) in accordance with CMS/Joint Commission regulations, established Policies and Procedures and the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP). Responsible for data Integrity as well as data integrations with other computerized systems.

  • Possesses deep knowledge of medical equipment integration and cybersecurity terminology to participate and support the Health Systems device integration and information security needs.

  • Establishes, tracks, monitors and reports on medical equipment project goals and objectives.

  • Interacts and coordinates with department directors, C-Suite staff and physicians to support the effective execution of medical technology services.

  • Partners with the clinical users and supply chain management to develop procurement strategies, clinical requirements and category-specific service requirements for Requests for Proposals (RFPs) submissions for all medical equipment platforms and technologies.

  • Recruits and develops a team of medical technology planners, analysts, logisticians and support staff to manage all required business functions.

  • Maintains effective communications with all medical equipment stakeholders (Medical/Clinical, Finance, Information Services, Facilities and Administration) involved in the acquisition, use, and maintenance of healthcare technologies.

  • Participates and contributes in Health System Committees and Task Forces, as needed.

  • Performs other duties as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering or related analytic field.
Ten (10) years of Medical Equipment Planning/Project Management experience in a healthcare operations environment.
Previous experience in a management role with demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful strategic plans and teams.
Experience in managing a broad range of healthcare projects (new / renovation / expansion) from conception to completion with significant budgetary and time constraints.
Experience with managing projects with various clinical workflows and medical technology requirements for inpatient, procedural and ambulatory clinical care areas.
Experience in managing procurement, logistics, deployment and certifications for complex medical equipment in a healthcare environment.
Experience with, and general knowledge of, typical medical equipment installations, the placement of utilities and service requirements associated with medical equipment.
Knowledge of industry standards, space requirements, best practices and emerging trends for Health Systems Medical Equipment.
Experience in developing strategic medical equipment replacement plans based on life cycle cost analyses.
Experience in forecasting a Health Systems fiscal budgets for medical equipment service and planned replacement.
Experience in managing deployment of medical technology to integrate with medical records systems to support paperless documentation per the requirements under the Federal HITECH Act.
Experience in the implementation of health care applications and technologies like Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Patient Physiological Monitoring, Telemetry Monitoring, and RFID/RTLS.
Experience in developing a Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) and other policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory authorities such as CMS, JACHO and AAAASF.
Profound knowledge of medical equipment service contract types, levels, terms and conditions.
Understanding and working knowledge of CMMS standards for Medical Equipment nomenclature, hierarchy, structure and workflows.
Advanced proficiency with excel, Tableau and other data analytics tools to create complex reports and business dashboards.
