Description:
The inpatient APP (NIGHTS) for the Kidney Transplant Service will manage inpatients on the Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Services at Moffitt-Long Hospital of UCSF Health, in close consultation and collaboration with attendings or residents.  Productivity expectations for this position are set by the Chief of Transplantation, and based on the performance of duties related to patient care.

The incumbent will be responsible for the inpatient NIGHT-TIME care of patients admitted to the kidney and pancreas transplant service. The incumbent must have excellent communication skills and be able to work with a multidisciplinary team that includes attending surgeons and physicians, resident physicians, medical students, pharmacists, and social workers.  As the primary on-site provider on NIGHTS, the incumbent must be able to work autonomously within their scope of practice, while at the same time communicate and consult with the overnight physicians and surgeons on call.  Major responsibilities will include transplant admissions, preparation for OR, admitting inpatient transfers, coordinating urgent dialysis, and management of acute or critical changes in patient conditions. The incumbent shall report directly to the practice manager for the kidney pancreas program and will have a dotted line reporting relationship to the inpatient attending.  Teleresults (TITUS) and Apex/Epic systems will be the platforms used for the electronic medical record.

Kidney Transplant (inpatient)

Required Qualifications
* Minimum of 2 years NP experience, with at least one-year previous NP experience in transplant (inpatient or outpatient), nephrology (inpatient or outpatient), or completion of the NP Fellowship program.  
* Ability to demonstrate management of post-transplant complications, management of immunosuppression and risks thereof, other post-transplant risks
* Active Nurse Practitioner licensure in the State of California
* Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
* Active American Heart Association CPR certification
* Current NP Furnishing License and verification of experience to furnish
* Current DEA number
* Current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner from a recognized accrediting board e.g. ANCC, etc.
* Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and professional conduct
* Computer literate (esp., MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet use) and willingness/ability to learn Apex and Teleresults ? (TITUS) computer systems, and other systems as necessary
* Excellent organizational skills, proficiency in meeting deadlines, ability to work independently and prioritize workload
* Excellent patient education skills
* Clinical skills (inc., hypertension management, incision/wound management, diabetes management: oral medications and insulin, diabetic teaching (diet, activity and blood glucose monitoring) phlebotomy, foley, JP drains)
* Ability to multi-task and prioritize
* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications
* Previous outpatient experience working with transplant patients.
* Experience working in large outpatient nephrology practice.

License/Certification
* California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.    
* Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
* Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
* Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.
* Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
* Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day.  CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
* Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement        
* State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment, and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, a LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
