Pleasant Valley Manor is actively seeking a Cook for an immediate full-time role. The Cook position requires professionalism, motivation, people skills, attention to detail, and a determination to provide an exceptional meal to fulfill our residents personal dietary needs. You will utilize your culinary knowledge to prepare exceptional meals for a population for which nutrition is crucial, using a variety of preparation methods, and you will use your supervisory skills to ensure that meals trays are flowing efficiently and that Dietary Aides are delivering meals in a presentable and timely manner that meets the needs of residents. A day in the life of a Cook includes, but is not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepares resident meals according to recipe, specification, and dietary requirements, utilizing a variety of equipment and preparation methods.

  • Inspects finished food product to ensure quality standards are being met. Ensures meals are served at proper temperatures and are properly plated when ready to be served.

  • Ensures proper sanitation standards are being utilized.

  • Seeks out new methods and principles and incorporates them into existing dietary practices.

  • Assists the Dietary Services Director and the Dietary Coordinator with menus, portion sizes, and other changes in the food preparation area. Assists with food recipes and presents new recipe ideas.

  • Assists the Dietary Services Director and the Dietary Coordinator with Health Department and other agency inspections.

  • Assists with orientation and onboarding of new hires in the Foodservice Department.

  • Checks in food items according to HACCP procedures. Ensures food items are properly stored and utilized according to FIFO inventory measures.

  • Handles resident requests with patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a cheerful disposition.

  • Exhibits leadership and works harmoniously with all team members.

  • Assists the Dietary Coordinator and Dietary Coordinator with overseeing the Dietary Department.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of age.

  • Six months foodservice experience required. Experience working in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or other related medical facility a plus.

  • Institutional food preparation experience a plus.

  • Supervisory experience preferred, but not required.

  • ServSafe Foodhandler certification.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as volumes.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift, push, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
