In this position you would serve as a professional Clinical Laboratory Scientist with

responsibility for performing highly complex procedures, as well as providing technical guidance and quality assurance oversight on a full range of processes conducted in the laboratory.

 Salary Range $53,433 – 69,462

 Duties and Responsibilities

-  Serves as a professional Clinical Laboratory Scientist in a department (such as, but not limited to Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, or Blood Bank section) of a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) responsible for solving difficult problems, performing highly complex and specialized laboratory procedures, and modifying or adapting new methods and techniques to improve and expand services

-  Performs a full range of laboratory testing to include the most difficult requested tests which requires specialized knowledge and includes a complex network of steps and variables

-  Selects the most appropriate test methodology to use and recognizes when test values are positive or exceed a defined decision limit, based on the results and determines the need for additional testing

-  Uses knowledge of specificity, sensitivity, and stringency to validate and verify samples used and tests performed

-  Assists laboratory supervisor with development of goals and objectives that integrate organizational and Medical Laboratory objectives


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

-  Knowledge of laboratory instruments, equipment and systems, and their technical and mechanical indicators of malfunction, sufficient to identify, correct, document, and prevent errors and problems

-  Knowledge of professional medical technology involving clinical laboratory testing of human blood, urine, and other body fluids or tissues, using manual or automated techniques sufficient to direct the work of subordinates

-  Knowledge of medicolegal/regulatory/accreditation standards sufficient to ensure work is consistent with standards

-  Skill in quality control, calibrating, operating, maintaining and troubleshooting automated instruments, manual test kits, and equipment utilized in a clinical laboratory/blood bank setting

-  Ability to monitor quality control and quality assurance/improvement programs, validate and implement new instruments/methods, calculate/correlate test results, and analyze workload and performance data; and to use computers various computer software relevant to laboratory and quality improvement activities.



-  US Citizenship is required

-  Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.

-  This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

-  The position may be identified as having “regular contact with children,” requiring a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for the position

-  ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or AMT (American Medical Technologist) certification

-   Will be required to work other than normal duty hours including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime & rotating shifts


Educational Requirement

-  A Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree from an accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, AND five years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids.

(OR) A full 4-year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization. The professional medical technology curriculum may have consisted of a 1-year post- bachelor’s certificate program or the last 1 or 2 years of a 4-year program of study culminating in a bachelor's in medical technology.

(OR) A Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, AND successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
