Program: Amarillo, Texas  Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Nursing & Behavioral Health Nursing

Salary: $85,196.80  $91,083.20 Annually

Shift Available: Fulltime

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Staff will maintain ethical and professional communications at all times using respectful Trauma Informed Care language.

  • The Director of Nursing is responsible for management, supervision and coordination of the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities nursing services and the clinical supervision of the Behavioral Health nursing services

  • Determines nursing service requirements and provides for the care and treatment of consumers

  • Completes supervisory responsibilities of interviewing, hiring, assignments, training, and monitoring staff performance in accordance with facility policies and procedures in the specified timeframes

  • Provides supervision of RNs, LVNs and clerk assigned to the department

  • Rotates with other nurses for after hours and weekend on call nursing coverage

  • Ensures nursing services are delivered in compliance with the principles and standards of Home and Community-based Services, Texas Home Living, General Revenue Services, Texas Board of Nurse Examiners rules and regulations, and local, state, and federal statues/laws applicable to service delivery

  • The Director of Nursing is also responsible for providing annual medication training to host parents and staff

  • Participates in program planning, development, and intra-agency coordination by attending the Medication Error Committee, Infection Control Committee, Administrative Death Review Committee

  • The Director of Nursing works under the general direction of the Director of Developmental Health

Required qualifications to be successful in the job:

  • Licensed through the Texas State Board of Nursing Examiner (TXBNE) as a Registered Nurse (RN), plus two (2) years of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or healthcare facility

  • License must be current and in good standing

  • Must be able to demonstrate compliance with a TXBNEs rules and regulations to maintain required license

  • An Associates degree in nursing from an accredited program plus three (3) years of work as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility

  • Or, a bachelors degree in nursing from an accredited program, plus two (2) years of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility

  • Or, a masters degree in nursing from an accredited program, plus one (1) year of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital or health care facility

  • Two (2) years of management experience required

  • Ability to recruit, supervise and train nursing staff

  • Ability to prepare and maintain records, to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities and interpret policies and procedures

  • Must have a valid Texas drivers license and be insurable under agency vehicle policy

  • Must be 18 years or age or older

Preferred qualifications to be successful in the job:

  • The ability to provide patient care with skills sufficient to apply CPR and First Aid

  • The ability to assign and supervise the work of others, to interpret regulations and convey them to others, to devise solutions to administrative problems, and develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures

  • Ability to recruit, supervise, and train nursing staff

  • Experience working with individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

  • Some knowledge of principles, standards, and regulations related to IDD programs
