Gene Therapy Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator
Responsibilities:
The Gene Therapy Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator will coordinate the
care of the pediatric blood and marrow transplant gene therapy patients under
the direction of the attending physicians in the Peds Heme transplant
service. The Gene Therapy Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator will provide
support to faculty who are conducting gene therapy clinical trials within the
BMT/stem cell transplant area and design, administer, conduct and coordinate
all research activities as part of the clinical research team in general bone
marrow transplant and gene therapy. The incumbent with have a leadership role
in the implementation of clinical trials and coordination with multi-site
trials. The incumbent will evaluate the current nursing practices necessary to
carry through the research protocols and develop necessary methodologies
necessary for study the study. The Gene Therapy Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator
will be responsible for establishing standards for nursing care and clinical
performance of the gene therapy studies, coordination of all trials which may
include supervision of other members of the clinical care team. The incumbent
will coordinate aspects of gene therapy patient enrollment in transplant
protocols. The incumbent will have responsibility to complete protocol
procedures in an accurate, safe and timely manner and will supervise any and
all chart documentation; data collection/case report form completion; adverse
events reporting; design of research procedures in conjunction with
investigators and sponsors. The incumbent will be responsible for working with
adult/pediatric investigators, cooperative groups, sponsoring agencies and
interfacing with patient/families during family conference, informed consent
process, donor identification process, preparation for and follow-up after
transplant and other steps as required by protocols. The incumbent is expected
to keep detailed records and documentation as required by protocols,
institutional and regulatory guidelines, and for FACT accreditation purposes.
It is essential that the applicant have extensive experience working with
children with cancer (minimum of 10 years with at least 5 year’s experience in
BMT and extensive research experience in pediatric oncology.
Qualifications:
BSN or MSN, required.
Current valid CA RN license.
BLS from the ARC or AHA.
5 years clinical nursing experience in assessment and care of children with blood disease and cancer, specifically in gene therapy, BMT and cellular therapies.
Experience in clinical research studies at an academic medical center including experience in preparation of applications to contracting departments and agencies, preparation of consent forms and IRB submissions, completion of regulatory documents.
Demonstrated successful experience in project implementation.
