Under the supervision of the UCSF Health Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique policies related to patient services, this Physician Assistant (PA)/Physician Assistant Sr (PA Sr) position is assigned to in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery Clinical Practice.


 


This AHP position may perform:


Delegated functions as appropriate to their “scope of practice” (In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved delegation of services agreement. Familiarity with state statutes for their licenses is necessary. Privileges should be identified by utilizing the list available on the Office of Medical Affairs and Governance (OMAG) website and selected during the credentialing process. The CIDP approved privileges are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL privileges.


The PA/PA Sr. professional may provide patient care in all age groups and UCSF Health licensed settings and affiliates. The AHP has responsibility for the standards of care for their specified patient population and evidence self-direction and accountability both to quality of care and in the development of their role within all UCSF Health locations and affiliates.


UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (AHP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day.


The PA/PA Sr. is accountable to, evaluated, and provided feedback by the UCSF supervising/collaborating physician or physician designee(s) in the same clinical specialty, the Administrative Practice Manager, and other AHPs/colleagues’ familiar with the clinical activities of the AHP professional through the OPPE and performance review processes. The PA Sr. position requires at least 5 years of experience and/or meets a satisfactory standard on all annual performance evaluations and maintains professional standing in their clinical specialty. The PA is responsible to maintain a current and up-to-date delegation of services agreement signature page of all supervising physicians with whom they work.


 


Orthopedic Surgery


Required Qualifications


Minimum one-year PA experience (Incumbents with five-plus years PA experience will be hired at Sr. PA level)


Must have graduated from a Physician’s Assistant Program


Must be certified by the National Commission on Certification and licensed in the State of California


Must be able to document the competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described


Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population


Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions


Prior experience in a medical office environment


 


This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations and in varying schedules as outlined.


 


Preferred Qualifications


Experience and training in orthopedics


 


License/Certification


Must hold an active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA)


California driver’s license (CDL) is required for the position


Must hold current national board certification by the first day of work and maintain


Must hold an active and transferable DEA license to California as required by the clinical specialty. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment via online DEA portal)


Must have completed an APA recognized graduate master’s degree program as a physician assistant


Must be eligible for payer enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid


Must hold current AHA BLS as the minimum requirement


 


UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through OMAG to practice and be privileged through CIDP to function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites and affiliates. Credentialing, health plan enrollment and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. Inability to comply with the requirements of OMAG/CIDP AT ALL TIMES will result in either, an LOA or suspension of privileges designation.
