The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is actively seeking an individual for a Physician (Aerospace Medicine) position, located at Barksdale AFB, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Provide Major Command level guidance and policy interpretation to health care professionals and medical support staffs in eight medical treatment facilities (MTF) located throughout the Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC). Major program areas covered include, but are not limited to, primary care management team operations, grounding management, waiver management, Medical Evaluation Boards and Physical Evaluation Boards, profiles, flight surgeon non-clinical activities, Aircrew positions Indicator (APl-5) management, aircraft accident investigation, AFGSC medical Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) management, disaster planning and response, deployment medicine, resource management, Aerospace Medical Technician and flight surgeon training requirements, applying medical standards to active duty Air Force personnel to include aviators, Air Traffic Controllers, missile operators and other special operational duty personnel, tracking communicable diseases and immunization rates, and augmenting the AFGSC Inspector General (IG) Team.


Doctor of Medicine (MD) or a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an approved school of medicine or osteopathy and completion of a residency in aerospace medicine, family practice, emergency medicine, or internal medicine; acceptable to the Surgeon General is required.

Board certification in Aerospace Medicine, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine or Preventive Medicine or equivalent is required. Board certification in Aerospace Medicine is preferred. 

License: Must be currently licensed to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. 

Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate, and be able to obtain Advanced Cardiac Life.

Support (ACLS) as required by the Air Force and MTF policy. 


U.S. citizenship required. 

This position is included in the MDG Employee Health Program and the Tuberculosis (TB) Surveillance examination program. 

This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. 

Employee must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
