The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for an Emergency Medical Technician (Ambulance Driver) to work at 59 Medical Group, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, TX. In this position, the incumbent will serve as an emergency medical technician (EMT) in one of several areas of a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) such as an emergency room, acute care or urgent care clinic, ambulance service, or a similar location performing invasive, advanced life support procedures. Responds to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illness which sometimes may be life-threatening.


This is a federal government position with no active duty commitments.




  • U.S. citizenship

  • Knowledge of advanced medical terminology, medical equipment, supplies, and procedures, and the major body systems to perform duties such as taking vital signs, medical assessments, trauma assessments, and emergency first response.

  • Knowledge of the legal considerations of medical care to gather, report, and protect patient  information in accordance with Privacy Ace laws, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and local guidelines.

  • Knowledge of emergency medicine techniques to prepare and administer commonly used emergency medications, and to recognize effectiveness and adverse medical reactions to patients.

  • Knowledge of sterilization and aseptic techniques to apply sterile dressing and maintain the sterile condition of medical supply items.

  • Ability to respond to patient emergencies using resuscitative techniques and first aid procedures.


  • Ability to drive, operate, and maintain an ambulance or other emergency vehicle.




  • Perform paramedic level emergency medical treatment to provide the most extensive pre-hospital care.

  • Responds to on-site accidents or other emergencies involving injury and/or illness.


  • Preforms as medical technician when not on emergency vehicle runs.


  • Operates Emergency Vehicle (E V).


Other significant facts pertaining to this position are:


  • Must be licensed as NREMT·Paramedic (State licensure maybe required) and fulfill recertification requirements.

  • Automated External Defibrillator training is required

  • Skill in operation of emergency transport vehicles is required.

  • Trined in NFPA certified Hazardous Materials (HAZMA1) Awareness course and maintains certification. If required to enter warm zone, is certified in both HAZMAT Awareness and Operator levels.

  • Child Care background check is required.

  • This position requires Pediatric Advanced Life Support training. (PALS)


  • This position requires Advances Cardiac Life Support training.  (ACLS)
