The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to work at 355 MDSS Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ. In this position, the incumbent will serve as a professional Clinical Laboratory Scientist to provide full scope of primary and preventive health care services to male and female patients of all ages (to include pediatric and geriatric) in small, medium and large-sized general clinics/hospitals.


This is a federal government position with no active duty commitments.


SALARY RANGE: $50,949.00 - $66,234.00


KEY REQUIREMENTS:


 



  • U.S. citizenship


 



  • A Bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, AND successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained..


 



  • 1. Board Certification by the American Board of Medicine in Family Practice Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Family Practice Medicine beyond residency training is required


 



  • The position may be identified as having “regular contact with children”, requiring a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person scheduled for the position.


 



  • Geriatric experience preferred.


 



  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.


 



  • Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support certifications.


 



  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.


 


DUTIES:


 



  • Knowledge of professional Family Medicine practices, principles, and theories to carry full responsibility for medical care of a wide range of illnesses and injuries.


 



  • Knowledge of clinical decision making principles, population base management strategies, and principles of disease management through the use of clinical path guidelines and the community resource/referral system.


 



  • Knowledge of universal infection control guidelines and practices and accrediting agencies' (e.g., AAAHC, HSI) medical practice standards.


 



  • Skill in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions to include but not limited to: diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, asthma, arthritis, cancer, extremity injuries, and psychiatric/psychological disorders.


  




  • Ability to guide, train, and mentor paraprofessionals, clinical nurses, and ancillary support staff.
