Description:

The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to work at 355th Medical Group, Davis-Monthan AFB Tucson, Arizona. In this position, the incumbent will provide technical expertise in implementing and providing systems administration for Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) used in the Medical Group, as well as to assist with the quality assurance program, ensuring compliance with the Joint Commission (JC), College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) accreditation requirements.


 


This is a federal government position with no active duty commitments.


 


SALARY RANGE: $50,949 - $66,234


 


KEY REQUIREMENTS:



  • U.S. citizenship.

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in Medical Technology or a related


scientific field is highly desired.



  • At least ONE YEAR of experience working with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society


for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or the American Medical Technologist (AMT) organization is desired.



  • This position participates in the TB examination and HEP-B and immunization programs.

  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support certification.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.


 


DUTIES:



  • Serves as a professional technologist for the LIS function, responsible for ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as monitor ng compliance, and modifying or adapting new methods and techniques to improve and expand services.

  • Assists laboratory management in applying regulatory standards to ensure laboratory compliance with The Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) accreditation requirements.

  • Executes a quality control/improvement system ensuring compliance with regulatory standards including quality control, proficiency testing, competency training, and continuing education.

  • Represents the Medical Laboratory within a variety of installation and functional-area organizations.


 


RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA): The description of your work experience in your application must clearly demonstrate that you gained and currently possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) shown below to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position being filled:


 



  • Knowledge of laboratory instruments, equipment and systems, and their technical and mechanical indicators of malfunction, sufficient to identify, correct, document, and prevent errors and problems.



  • Knowledge of professional medical technology involving clinical laboratory testing of human blood, urine, and other body fluids or tissues, using manual or automated techniques.

  • Knowledge of medicolegal/regulatory/accreditation standards sufficient to ensure work is consistent with standards.

  • Skill in quality control, calibrating, operating, maintaining and troubleshooting automated instruments, manual test kits, and equipment utilized in a clinical laboratory/blood bank setting.

  • Ability to monitor quality control and quality assurance/improvement programs, validate and implement new instruments/methods, calculate/correlate test results, and analyze workload and performance data; and to use various computer software relevant to laboratory and quality improvement activities.



  • Able to interpret nonverbal signals as well.
