The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Nurse Clinical to work at 460 Medical Operations Squadron (AFSPC), Buckley AFB CO.   In this position, the incumbent will provide clinical nursing care in the Family Practice Clinic of the Medical Treatment Facility. Performs patient check in, triage/telephone triage, screening, emergency care, a variety of treatments, diagnostic tasks, and patient/family counseling.


This is a federal government position with no active duty commitments.


SALARY RANGE: $55,027 - $71,537




  • U.S. citizenship.


  • At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the 0610 occupational series must be met.


  • Possession of a master’s degree in professional nursing; OR AT least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.


  • Must maintain a valid, unrestricted, and current registered nurse license (with no limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions) in a state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.


  • Position may be identified as having “regular contact with children,” requiring a criminal history background check to be completed on any person selected for the position IAW DOD guidance.


  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.


  • Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certificate.


  • May be required to work shifts or augment clinical nursing support during the absence of other team nurses due to illness, leave, or deployment.


  • The employee must be able to attain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.



  • Provides comprehensive professional nursing care to Family Health patients with medical, surgical, gynecological, and obstetrical conditions ranging from normal to those having complex complications requiring sophisticated, highly technical care and treatment.


  • Performs procedures, treatments, and medication administration.



  • Participates in continuing education programs to update and/or maintain skills and knowledge to meet annual requirements.


  • Provides instructions to patient/significant other and/or family members/caregivers.



RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA): The description of your work experience in your application must clearly demonstrate that you gained and currently possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) shown below to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position being filled:


  • Knowledge of professional nursing care theories, principles, practices and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty.


  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatments, and the desired effects, side effects, contraindications and complications of their use.


  • Knowledge of the requirements for proper documentation of patient’s condition, to include disease process, acknowledgement of effective teaching methods and evaluation of treatment outcomes/goals/follow-up care


  • Skill in setting up and operating specialized medical equipment utilized within ambulatory care settings, such as AEDs, cardiac and vital sign monitoring devices, EKG units, oximetry and electronic fetal monitoring devices.


  • Ability to assess patient care needs IAW standards of clinical practice in the ambulatory care setting, develop nursing diagnoses and plans of care, identify expected outcomes/goals, implement nursing care services, and evaluate the patient’s status.


  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a culturally diverse group of individuals.
