The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Psychiatric) to work at 96th Test Wing (AFMC), 96th Medical Group, 96th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Invisible Wounds Clinic, Eglin AFB, FL. In this position, the incumbent is to provide a full range of psychological services for IW clinic patients to include assessments, interventions, evidence-base psychotherapy and consultation to medical staff.


 This is a federal government position with no active duty commitments.


SALARY RANGE: $73,375 - $95,388



  •  U.S. citizenship.

  •  Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or at least two full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree from a professional nursing educational program.

  • Selection Placement Factor: National Certification in Adult Psychiatry is required. FNP with CNS Adult Psychiatry certification would also be acceptable.

  •  Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  •  This is a testing designated position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent(s) of this position is subject to random drug testing.

  • The work requires the incumbent to be able to hear, have good vision, above average agility and dexterity with use of fingers and hands, and have rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously to operate emergency equipment (life support).

  •   As an employee of the United States government, the incumbent will maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, complying with military treatment facility (MTF) policies for dress and appearance.

  •  May be required to perform shift work and emergency overtime.

  •  May occasionally be required to travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.



  •   Provides leadership in advanced practice nursing, preventive and therapeutic psychiatric healthcare services to patients in the Invisible Wounds Clinic.

  •  Provides evidence-based counseling for adult beneficiaries with a wide variety of complex psychiatric problems.

  •  Provides an advanced level of highly specialized comprehensive professional nursing care to at-risk patients undergoing new, experimental, and/or unusual treatment programs.

  •  Provides indirect patient care, community development and integrated behavioral health services.

  • Provides assistance consultation &psychiatric training for senior leaders, IW Clinic Staff and other medical staff as requested by the IW Clinic Medical Director, Medical Group Chief of Medicine or Medical Group Chief Nurse in regards to invisible wounds.


RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA): The description of your work experience in your application must clearly demonstrate that you gained and currently possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) shown below to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position being filled:


  •  Knowledge of an extensive range of professional nursing theories, principles and practices to perform the clinical evaluation and the medical management of patients with psychiatric disorders, PTS, TBI and pain requiring intensive outpatient treatment.

  •  Knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities for individual, family and group psychotherapies for a full range of adult psychiatric conditions; knowledge of personality development theories for evaluating behavior and reaction patterns of patients; and knowledge of experimental, complementary and alternative therapeutic modalities for patients with psychiatric disorders, PTS, TBI and pain.  

  •  Knowledge of general pharmacology and relative expertise regarding medicines commonly used in psychiatry and the ability to rationally recommend pharmacotherapy; evaluate treatment for efficacy, toxicity and side effects; evaluate potential for drug interactions; evaluate the impact of pharmacotherapy on comorbid medical conditions; and evaluate the contribution of medications taken for medical illness to the current psychiatric disorder needing treatment.

  •  Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards and HIPAA regulations and understanding of the military health care system.
