Job Description
The Ultrasonographer operates equipment that uses high-frequency soundwaves to take images and scans
of the bodys internal organs and of expectant mothers developing fetuses.



Responsibilities
Description


-Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
-Performs general, OB/GYN, vascular, and invasive ultrasound procedure examinations.


-Selects appropriate equipment for use in ultrasound setup, following exam specifications.
-Responsible for explaining the test to the patient and instructing and assisting the patient in assuming the
physical position for examination.


-Ability to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for
intervention.
-Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the
likelihood of medical/health care errors.
-Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
-Enter test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test
results.
-Utilize the facilitys PAC system for storing and retrieving images.
-Obtains permanent record of internal examination by photographing images of organs shown on the display
module or removing the strip printout.
-Evaluate technical quality of images to obtain representative images of pathogenic conditions.
-Discuss test results with supervisor or attending physician.
-Perform all quality control checks, as prescribed.
-Assumes responsibility for assigned area and reports equipment malfunction.
-Provides practical instruction for students and/or health care professionals.
-Participates in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan. May be responsible for specific
quality control duties in the assigned area.
-Responsible for control of inventory care and control of specific ultrasound items and purchase supplies for
area of responsibility as needed.
-Pursues appropriate continuing education.
-Other duties as assigned.



Education/Credentials
High School Diploma or GED - Required
Associate of Science - Diagnostic Medical Sonography - Required
Bachelor of Science - Diagnostic Medical Sonography - Preferred
Experience
3 months - 1 year required
Supervisor Experience
No Experience Required
Licenses & Certifications
-ARDMS, RVT, RDCS (minimum one required) Required
-BLS Required
