ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Recruited in 1991 as Assistant Director at CIGNA's Medicare Field Office. Responsible for program administration, budget administration, facility management and administration for the Boise office. The immediate challenge was threefold: improve morale, streamline the decision making process and improve overall office productivity, and meet HCFA deadlines on Physician Payment Reform.

  • Successfully rekindled the organization's morale and built its performance rating to 99.4 percent (out of 100 percent).
  • Accomplished all facets of Physician Payment Reform on schedule.
  • Increased our percentage of electronic claims submission from 18 percent to 44.8 percent (best performance within the CIGNA organization).
  • Due to this performance, selected by CIGNA as key member of committee that provided direction for electronic claims submission throughout the division. The committee was successful in quickly boosting division's performance to meet HCFA goals.

In 1988, recruited as Chief Financial Officer for Dominican Health Services - a multi-facility health care corporation. Responsible for all financial functions at Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville, WA (55 bed primary care facility offering a full range of surgical, medical and ancillary services). Also responsible for supervision of business office, medical records, environmental services and plant operations. Staff of 43 and budget of $14 million.

  • Key member of team which obtained $4.3 million in new funding for facility expansions and remodeling.
  • Maintained an overall 4+% gross margin from operations.
  • Successfully negotiated reciprocal agreements with physicians' clinic which greatly improved hospital's service capability and overall revenues.
  • Generated an additional $160,000 in hospital's gross margin by negotiating a flat fee payment schedule for billing services, while improving our overall efficiency in that area.
  • Instrumental in converting antiquated computer system to new, on-line corporate system with no interruption in financial or accounting services.

  • Rejuvenated Riverton to such good financial health that it was purchased by Hospital Corporation of America.
  • Increased cash flow and reduced A/R by 50+% in both facilities.
