Internal Medicine
An internal medicine physician focuses on treating adult patients with a variety of medical conditions. To become an internist, an individual must complete both an undergraduate education and medical school. After the completion of medical school, and before one can begin a residency program, the individual must first pass the graduate medical exam. Then, a physician begins a residency program focusing on the treatment and prevention of adult diseases and conditions.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for internists are expected to be very good in the next decade, both in hospitals and private practice offices. Earnings for a physician with an emphasis in internal medicine can start at $165,000 and can reach upwards of $200,000 as the physician gains more experience.
