Nursing Students

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Nurse Corps Officers may serve at any one of more than 250 Navy and medical facilities around the globe, from Hawaii to Japan, Germany to Guam and Washington, D.C., to Washington state. As a Navy Nurse, you could work at one of the highly acclaimed National Naval Medical Centers in Bethesda, MD, Portsmouth, VA or San Diego, CA. Or you could provide medical support aboard one of two dedicated hospital ships—the USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy. Additional opportunities are available on surface ships, with aircraft squadrons or even with the Fleet Marine Force.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

To become a Commissioned Officer in the Nurse Corps, qualifications include:

-U.S. Citizen between the ages of 18 and 41

• Currently licensed and practicing nursing in the U.S. (new graduates must obtain a license within one year of beginning Active Duty service)

• In good standing (as a student or graduate) with a CCNE-accredited U.S. education program granting a Bachelor of Science degree

There are part-time opportunities as a Reserve Navy Nurse. Serving part-time as a Navy Reserve Nurse, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. General Surgery Resident

Financial Assistance Program (FAP) scholarship for General Surgery residents PGY2-PGY5. The program is designed to provide General Surgery residents additional financial supplementation while they are in residency. Upon completing residency, candidates will be commissioned as an active duty (Full-Time) medical officer (General Surgeon) in the Navy.

Initial qualifications:

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced NP to join our dynamic and expanding program. This NP will be based in our outpatient clinic, and will collaborate in the care of patients being evaluated, diagnosed and treated for non-malignant hematologic conditions.

A Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide expert advanced nursing care in their area of specialization. They will be guided and follow the policies and standardized procedures, rules and regulations, requirement of supervision under CA statute, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing, Medical Staff, and any unique policies related to the provision of patient services. In California, nurse practitioners (APRNs) can practice, bill, and provide independent health care services under a standardized procedure in collaboration with a supervising physician.

Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinic Required Qualifications

At least 2 years of experience as an advanced practice nurse in an outpatient or inpatient adult hematology program, or a combination of relevant experience.

Demonstrated competence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, and problem identification/resolution

Nurse Practitioner Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery ($10,000 Sign-On-Bonus)

Job Summary:

The Pediatric Cardiothoracic Nurse Practitioner will deliver comprehensive healthcare under the clinical supervision of the Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland/San Francisco and under the administrative supervision of the Director of Pediatric Critical Care at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco. The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with a dynamic interdisciplinary team of providers to care for patients in the Pediatric Cardiac Transitional Care Unit and in all inpatient areas that care for pediatric cardiothoracic surgery patients. Care is also provided in the outpatient clinic, via telehealth, and potentially in the operating room (depending on departmental need, experience, and interest). In the clinic and inpatient areas, the Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessment, evaluation, planning, teaching, and case management of preoperative and postoperative cardiothoracic surgery patients. The Nurse Practitioner will primarily work at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco campus and may cross train to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – Oakland campus or other facilities where our Pediatric Cardiothoracic surgeons operate Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery

Nurse Practitioner OB/GYN Fertility ($10,000 Sign-On-Bonus)

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of OB/GYN, REI guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique ambulatory patient services this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to in the Center for Reproductive Health (CRH). This AHP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their "scope of practice". In general, the "scope of practice" includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office website. The CIDP approved standardized procedures are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL SPs on the list. This position may provide patient care in approved age groups and UCSF Health licensed settings. The AHP has responsibility for the quality of standards of care for a specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the all UCSF medical center locations. UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 30-60 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of six (6) months of NP employment experience

A minimum of one (1) year of RN/NP employment experience in women’s health clinical services

Two (2) years of experience with diagnostic ultrasounds

Knowledge of general obstetrical care and female reproductive anatomy and physiology

The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care.  The RN functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams and carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required.  The RN performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision.  The RN assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. 
The Orthopaedic / Neurospine/ Orthospine unit is a dynamic state-of-the art unit providing care for patients undergoing Neurospine, Orthospine and other orthopaedic Surgeries.

Types of surgery common on this unit include Orthospine and Neurospine  procedures including laminectomy, discectomy, foraminotomy and spinal fusions, as well as some other orthopaedic procedures such as joint replacements and soft tissue tumor removals

The unit focuses on cutting edge pain management modalities, evidence-based post-surgical interventions and advanced surgical interventions.

Nurses support their patients with an interdisciplinary approach. The dynamic patient care team consists of surgeons, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, case managers and social workers.

Required Qualifications
* One year of recent RN clinical experience (within the past 2 years) in a medical surgical acute care unit
* Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
* Active American Heart Association CPR Certification

patient dead and notify the next-of-kin, if the next-of-kin is physically present. Although

completion of the death certificate is primarily the responsibility of the patient’s primary

physician, the Emergency Services physician can complete this document if all the

appropriate information is available.

Reassure and treat non-acute conditions in priority as established by medical triage.
Prepare appropriate patient profile changes.
Prepare and document appropriate history, physical examinations, and preoperative

diagnosis. Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with MTF

directives.

Dispatch and provide medical control for ambulances in accordance with MTF

procedures.

Accompany emergency services technicians on ambulance runs when indicated by the

nature of the emergency and in accordance with MTF leadership guidance and MTF

procedures.

Perform emergency room procedures compatible with the MTF operations capacity,

supplies and equipment.

As workload permits during scheduled duty, attend the Emergency Service's monthly

staff meetings and any additional committee meetings as required by the individual

MTF. The physician may also attend such meetings scheduled during other than their

assigned duty shift.

License - Contract physician(s) assigned by the Contractor to perform the services covered by this contract shall have a current license to practice medicine. To have Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration, contract providers must have a medical license and be individually registered with the DEA in the state where they will provide services under the contract. All licenses held by the personnel working on this contract shall be full and unrestricted licenses. Contract physician(s) who have current, full and unrestricted licenses in one or more states, but who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered for the purposes of this contract.

Board Certification – All contract physician(s) shall be board certified (preferred)/Board Eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times. Documentation verifying current certification shall be provided by the Contractor to the VA COR on an annual basis for each year of contract performance.

The VA Full Time Equivalency (FTE) for the services required is depended upon VAPHS need. FTE is defined by VA as a minimum of 80 hours every two weeks and does not include holidays.

VA HOURS OF OPERATION/SCHEDULING

VA Business Hours: The inpatient clinics of Behavioral Health and Sciences (BH&S) Care Line are Full-Time, Monday- Friday.

Work Schedule:

Work Schedule: Specific schedule will be among the following: 07:30 AM- 4:00 PM; 08:00 AM-04:30PM; 08:30 AM-5:00 PM; 09:00 AM – 05:30 PM; 09:30 AM – 06:00 PM; and 10:00 AM – 06:30 PM. excluding recognized Federal Holidays. The Board-Certified preferred/Board Eligible Psychiatrist is required to be on site on a daily basis will be determined by VAPHS need, as defined in paragraph Hours of Operation in this section, unless leave has been approved by the COR.

Patients must be seen by a Contractor’s physician (s) on-site at VAPHS in accordance with VA Rules and Regulations on clinic wait times and consult completion. Contractor shall notify the COR at least monthly about any obstacles to meeting this performance measure.

Contractor’s physician (s) shall be available and present in clinic during normal VAPHS clinic hours, VAPHS which will be established, and may be revised, as deemed appropriate for patient care by the Chief of Staff.

Patients must be seen within the amount of time designated by the Service Line Vice President of the page when medically indicated. Requirements may differ based on the specialty.

The VAPHS reserves the right to accommodate schedule changes as workload demands. If any changes are needed the VAPHS will give notice prior to the change in shift.

Full range of psychiatry services to include treatment and management of general and specialized mental health needs in the Veteran population. Mental Health issues may include but are not limited to dementia, mood, schizophrenic and addictive disorders, PTSD, and those Veterans with co-morbid and medical/neurological disorders.

Mental Health Services include: inpatient on the three 26-bed units including acute psychiatric units and a unit for those with severe mental illness.

Work closely with COS in achieving strategic goals and performance measures within clinical area.

Exhibit leadership characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for integrated programs that cross service/discipline lines, and influences organizational mission and healthcare.

Utilize current trends and relevant theories in an analytical framework to design/modify, implement, and measure integrated programs and activities to achieve clinical and administrative goals of the medical center and/or network; evaluate outcomes against strategic priorities.

Consultant to medical center staff and greater community in behavioral health care psychology.

Clinical Care: Contractor physician(s) shall provide clinical Psychiatric services. Contractor’s physician (s) shall be present on time for any scheduled clinics as documented by physical presence in the clinic at the scheduled start time.

Contractor’s physician (s) shall provide consultative services at the patient’s bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and is in a clinic setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic. Procedures shall be scheduled for completion within 30 days of the date of the consult.

Medications: Contractor’s physician(s) shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No medications shall be provided to patients.

Discharge education: Contractor’s physician(s) shall provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Multispecialty clinical or surgical patients.

Patient Safety Compliance and Reporting: Contract physician (s) shall follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. Contract physician (s) shall make every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care. All events related to patient injury, medication errors, and other breeches of patient safety shall be reported to the COR VA Safety Policy. As soon as practicable (but within 24 hours) Contractors shall notify COR of incident and submit to the COR the Patient Safety Report, following up with COR as required or requested.
